In The Beginning There Was Yarn
Hi, I’m Bobby and welcome to Relaxing With Yarn. As you may have guessed I love all things yarn, whether it’s caking up a new skein to use on my next project of getting into some great designing.
I have been knitting, crocheting, sewing and crafting since 2013 when I picked up my needles as a therapeutic release of dealing with chronic pain (see my blog Living With Factor 5 Leiden if you’d like to understand more about blood disorders). Being able to focus on something creative and positive was a great way of keeping my sanity during the bad days and I was quickly able to become a competent yarn enthusiast and seamstress.
Over the years I have gone from basic scarfs and hats to custom made sweaters and double-knitted scarfs with color work; basic shape toys for babies to full standing dragons protecting her eggs; simple repair work and alternations to making custom three-piece suits. Don’t get me wrong there has been a lot of blood sweat and tears to get to where I am now but I wouldn’t have traded that journey for anything.
Where Am I Heading?
My favorite type of needle and yarn work is definitely knitting and I have recently started to branch out into creating my own patterns. For the moment you will have access to use and download my patterns for free and use them for non-commercial use only and I will always appreciate any feedback given.
My current focus is on sweater design and creating a nice easy way for beginner knitters to make their own sweaters from scratch using a simple method. This will allow those beginners some easy gratification of making a practical piece of clothing for their friends and families without having to buy or source multiple versions for different sizes.
I am also creating patterns for textured socks with different stitch patterns based on the plain vanilla sock so be prepared for a torrent of socks in the colder seasons.
Why Do I Have This Website?
As I mentioned before I have started to develop my own patterns and I would love to share back into the yarn community as I have on many occasion scoured the internet for a decent and straight forward pattern for a project only to find that it is priced out of my very limited budget.
My patterns are currently only tested by myself so they are certainly not a classified as professional but they are certainly a high quality product that I am proud of sharing with the world. I will eventually have them tested by others as they go out into the world and I am always happy to make alterations based on my consumer needs.
