How to Knit the Braided Cable

The braided cable can be a great feature addition to any knitting project. The cable can be placed on any stockinette section of knitting. Tools & Materials

Abbreviations

Alongside the usual K = knit stitch and P = purl stitch you will also need to be aware of the following:

  • CF2 = put 2 stitches on the cable needle and hold them in the front
  • KCF2 = knit the 2 stitches on the cable needle
  • CB2 = put 2 stitches on the cable needle and hold them in the back
  • KCB2 = knit the 2 stitches on the cable needle

Pattern Instructions

The pattern is a 18stitches wide and consists of 8 rows worked flat (not in the round).

  1. K3, P2, K8, P2, K3
  2. K5, P8, K5
  3. K3, P2, CF2, K2, KCF2, CF2, K2, KCF2, P2, K3
  4. K5, P8, K5
  5. K3, P2, K8, P2, K3
  6. K5, P8, K5
  7. K3, P2, K2, KB2, K2, KCB2, K2, P2, K3
  8. K5, P8, K5
