With Autumn looming around the corner and Winter fast on its way too I decided it was time for a new hat (and to use up some of my stash so I could later by more yarn) and so I came up with this cosy little pattern. By using a DK weight yarn you’ll get a fairly light hat but if you want to get a thick and dense feel then you can easily switch over to a chunkier wool on the same needles to get that effect,
The hat is split up into 6 segments with 3 Braided Cables and 3 Moss stitch patterns. Although the pattern is designed for an intermediary skill level if you don’t know how to do either the Moss stitch or Braided Cable I will walk you through how to create them in the actual pattern instructions.

In order to create the hat you will need the following:
- 4mm circular or double-pointed needles: I used my Knitter’s Pride 16″ needles
- DK weight yarn such as this gorgeous BambooMN Brand Crimson yarn
- Notions: stitch markers, scissors, measuring tape, and a tapestry needle
- Pen & paper or a stitch/row counter: because you’ll be doing a lot of pattern repeats it will be handy to know where you are if you need to put your work down and by recording this information as you go you’ll never need to work out where to start from again.
If you need help with the moss stitch (also know as the seed stitch) then check out this tutorial on How To Knit The Seed Stitch.
