How To Crochet A Coffee Cozy

Coffee cozies are a great way to help keep your beverage hot and to allow you to hold that scorching hot cup too. When I came across the crochet spike stitch I immediately fell in love with it and knew that it would be perfect for these coffee cozies.

10” Coffee Cozy Pattern

There are only 2 items you need: 3mm crochet hook and approximately 30g of dk weight yarn. Gauge isn’t particularly important here because you’ll keep going until the piece is 10” around and 3.5” tall.

Abbreviations

  • CO: cast on
  • CH: chain stitch
  • SC: single crochet
  • HDC: half double crochet
  • DC: double crochet
  • SL ST: slip stitch

Instructions

CO 60 stitches (or until CH measures 10” ensuring you CH a  multiple of 2), join in the round with SL ST being careful  not to twist your stitches. CH3 and turn your work.

HDC in each stitch including the space you have just made the CH3 from, join with SL ST into the top of CH3, CH3 and turn.

The CH3 counts as the first DC + CH1 of this next row. Skip the next stitch after CH3 then repeat *DC, CH1, skip next stitch*. SL ST with top of CH3, CH1 and turn.

DC in the stitch on the row below (underneath the CH1 space) then CH1. Continue in *DC below, CH1* until end of row and then SL ST, CH1 and turn.

Repeat the previous row until the piece measures just below 3.5”.

For the final row *Dc below, Sc in CH1 stitch* until end of round then SL ST and fasten off.

Now that you have finished the main Cozy you can leave it as it is with the fabulous texture you’ve made or you can embellish it with appliqués or anything you like.
