As a beginner crocheter it can often be quite daunting trying to hunt down patterns that you feel you can accomplish without becoming overwhelmed. Not to mention of course that it’s often very difficult to determine the skills or stitches needed for many paid patterns as nothing is included in the description of the pattern.
To make life easier for those new to crocheting I have included my top 5 crochet hat and headband patterns for you to review. Hats and headbands are great for beginners, especially when working in the round as you generally only need to know the very basics of crocheting in order to be successful. These types of crocheted accessories will continue to be a staple in my crocheting repertoire as everyone loves a custom made hat in their favourite colours.
In this short guide I will provide you with links to the patterns (free and paid), the skills or stitches that you need (e.g.Sc, Dc etc), and the equipment to get started.
These hats and headbands are either worked in rounds or worked flat and sewn up/joined at the end.

Basket Weave Headband β Advanced Beginner
This headband pattern is based on the basket weave stitch which is one of my favourite intermediate stitches to work with.
