Baby sleeping cocoons make a wonderful gift to any newborn; it keeps the safe, snuggled, and warm. Besides, they look adorable all wrapped up in them.

*SIZING*

This pattern will fit a newborn little one with a length of approximately 25 - 27" and internal width of 13-14“ with a little room for movement, extra blankets or cuddly toys.

*SKILL/ MATERIAL  REQUIREMENTS*

This sleeping bag pattern is aimed at intermediary skilled knitters who will need to be comfortable with cabling, picking up stitches, and making button holes - instructions are given throughout also. The front of the pattern has three braided cables for decoration and the back has one on each side which leaves the back smooth for better comfort for baby.

It is recommended that you use a medium weight yarn which naturally has some stretch or give. When making up the sleeping bag with these yarns you will have a nice stretch in the garment which will potentially last baby a little longer depending on their growth rate. I personally use Aran weight acrylic yarn but any medium weight will work just fine.

*PATTERN FAQS*

🧶 I can’t seem to get the ribbing even on the front flap, what do I do?

    - In long hand the ribbing pattern would be:

        - row 1: *k3, p3* 12 times (72 stitches) + k3 at the end of the row

        - row 2: *p3, k3* 12 times + p3 at the end of the row

        - Then repeat rows 1-2 for 10cm.

🧶 What is a 3 needle bind off?

   - The three needle bind off is a casting off method that also joins the two bits of the hood together without sewing (once you have divided your stitches on to two needles). Here is a great YouTube video that shows you how to do it:

If you prefer you can cast off all your stitches and the sew the hood together, it will give you a similar effect 😊. Be sure to match up the two cable ends as your guide when sewing so it is symmetrical.
